Whatever your 2010 plans turn out to be, definitely try to fit in a camera-trapping hike. The fire put a real dent in my progress, but I'm back at it now. Been following your blog, and am very happy for you!

Re: 2010 Resolutions

Hey, man, I wanted to thank you. I have been trying to get my big ass back on the trails this year after being hiking like crazy all through 2008 and then wimping out after the spring of last year when the temps went crazy and then the Station Fire killed most of the access to the Angeles which I so enjoyed exploring. I was feeling like wimping out on my planned Sunday hike but your little video inspired me, so thanks! I would love to meet up with you for a hike some time; I live in Monrovia, right next door to you, and have a goal of doing the Clamshell/Monrovia Peak loop in the late fall. Got to get my fat ass in shape first. Anyway, if you want to reach out feel free. See you on the trails amigo!
--Mike

Re: 2010 Resolutions

Go for it. Come to think of it, I think they might.
Proud of your goals! - basically the fitnes part ... hope some of it will rub off on us

Re: 2010 Resolutions

Congrats on your search & rescue acceptance! These are such great goals, and yes, you can totally do 500 miles this year. I want to go on some of your hikes, so I guess I'm going to have to find some hiking newbies to join us. An amazing and admirable feat. Yes, the outdoors does indeed change you. I think you are noticing it so much now because you have been out there so often. There is a familiarity, a solidarity with nature that comes with frequent, repeated contact. You become tuned to different rhythms and sounds and smells and they be come entwined with the fabric of your being. It allows your soul to expand and encompass the wider world, the world that the majority of that mass of people behind you in Los Angeles will never experience--and sadly don't care to.

People like you are special--and lucky, fortunate, and blessed to become one with nature. It is a balm, a tonic, a cure for what ails us. It is the church for those who know there is something beyond the brick and morter boundaries of human places of worship. It is the domain of myriad creatures who are our brothers and sisters. It is our true home. And the way home is only a hike away.

Kindest regards and all the best for the New Year!

Re: Progress Report (January 1st)

Terrific News! Your site is nicely designed, this video is professionally produced and a joy to watch. Your message is well received. I have lots of your posts summed up on my site with links back to your website, drop by again any time.

I am about to embed this video at TracksAndTrails because you have a gift to speak the message that I want to share....in four words - Take a hike, eh!
